The Bootcamp ends and the journey begins
The second edition of the MedTech Bootcamp had it’s glorious finish in Lisbon during the Web Summit on the 6th of November. The teams pitched once more in front of an impressive jury, consiting of investors, incubators and MedTech manufacturers. ZiMT proudly presents the top three teams of this years’ bootcamp:
|1. Onira||2. deepc||3. BrainGuard|
All participants had at least 100 hours of content, made two to three times as much new contacts and visited five different european countries and healthcare systems. It was a pleasure to see every team, regardless of their technology readyness level, develope further during the two-month program, defining and validating its idea, business models or market approach.
The three finalists will join the EIT Health Bootcamp Tour in end of November to visit another two countries of the EIT Health network. And after that, Onira, as the winner of MedTech Bootcamp, will get a ticket to this year’s edition of the EIT Health Summit, which will take place on December 2-3 in Paris, France.
EIT Health MedTech Bootcamp is a partnership between ZiMT and EIT Health and combines ZiMT’s medtech expertise and healthcare network with various opportunities EIT Health offers. It aims to efficiently equip interdisciplinary teams of young and ambitious engineers and health practitioners with an entrepreneurial toolbox and a strong network to catapult their promising healthcare transforming ideas. The program is closely organized together with partners: FAU, unternehmertum, Medical Valley EMN, Medical University Lodz, IESE Business School, Medicen and IPN.
The 2-month program was aimed at Master Students, PhD students and health-practitioners as well as young engineers with a healthcare related startup idea. Throughout the program participants transformed ideas into successful startups while learning and working on business creation and validation.
The 1st phase took place at the startup forges Joseph’s and Zollhof in Nuremberg as well as UnternehmerTUM based in Munich where the teams were provided with a business design toolbox to develop and implement a sustainable future business plan and create prototypes by applying proven methods out of design and management.
In the 2nd phase at the FAU and ZiMT in Erlangen the program focused on validation as the key of a successful startup and business idea. The participants got a greater overview on the central topics of IP, licensing, reimbursement and medical device law within the context of the international disparities of the European healthcare systems to improve their approach. The entrepreneurial landscape of the Medical Valley EMN offered a great ecosystem with healthcare providers, experts, and scientists to validate their startup approaches and get direct feedback from future users and customers.
After one month of preparation the teams participated in a roadshow as the 3rd phase of the MedTech Bootcamp. During the following 4 weeks, the teams started out on a tour through Europe to pitch their startup ideas in front of possible investors and healthcare experts. Every stop included a 2-3 day program with pitching and socializing events as well as content sessions about the local eco- and healthcare system. Our way led us to University of Medicine Lodz (i.e. hospital visit), IESE Business School Barcelona (i.e. visit of Scientific Parc, Barcelona Health Hub), Medicen Paris and Instituto Pedro Nunes (i.e. ESA-program, grant writing, Lisbon-Expo pavillon).
